Why today
Today's pick is CureBay, the Bhubaneswar based rural healthcare startup that raised Rs 100 crore in a Pre-Series C round announced on October 22, 2026, split between Rs 69 crore in equity led by IvyCap Ventures and more than Rs 30 crore in debt from Trifecta Capital, Alteria Capital and VentureSoul Partners. The same window produced a wide spread of smaller rounds: Minneapolis insurtech Slingshot Insurance emerged from stealth with a 27 million dollar seed co-led by Rally Ventures and Skyward Group, New York frontline workforce startup Firstwork closed a 15 million dollar Series A led by Earlybird Venture Capital, Bengaluru's Karta AI raised a 3 million dollar seed for voice agents that handle bank and lender calls, and Mumbai consumer brand house Chapter Home raised Rs 63 crore from Bessemer Venture Partners and Stride Ventures. CureBay stands out on sheer scale of real-world impact: more than 250 clinics across seven Indian states, 1,800-plus community health workers and over 1.7 million patients served, a scale none of today's other rounds come close to matching even though its underlying eClinic model is not new.
Problem
Hundreds of millions of people in rural India live far from a qualified doctor, a working diagnostic lab or a hospital capable of handling anything beyond basic care. Patients routinely travel hours and lose a full day's wages for a single consultation, and many skip care entirely rather than make that trip, letting treatable conditions progress untreated. Government primary health centers are thinly staffed and often lack equipment, while private specialists cluster in cities, leaving a structural gap between what rural patients need and what is physically reachable from their villages.
Product
CureBay runs a network of technology enabled clinics staffed by local community health workers it calls Swasthya Mitras, who use connected devices and video links to bring doctors, located centrally, into a village-level consultation. The clinics offer general consultations, basic diagnostics, medicine dispensing and annual health memberships, and route complex cases to a network of partner hospitals and laboratories for surgery, specialist care or advanced testing. The company also runs monthly health camps and has been named a healthcare partner for Samriddhi Kendra, a Government of India rural-development initiative, giving it a distribution channel beyond its own clinic footprint.
Traction
CureBay operates more than 250 clinics across seven Indian states, supported by over 1,800 Swasthya Mitra community health workers, 530 trained clinical staff and 230 partner doctors, and it has served more than 1.7 million patients to date. It runs more than 400 health camps a month and works with over 210 partner hospitals and laboratories for referrals. The company plans to use the new round to enter Andhra Pradesh, extending a footprint that has grown steadily since its 2021 founding without yet disclosing revenue or unit-economics figures publicly.
Team
CureBay was founded in 2021 by Priyadarshi Mohapatra, Shobhan Mahapatra and Sanjay Swain, who built the company's eClinic and community health worker model from its home base in Odisha before expanding into six additional states. The founders have grown the company through a Series A led by Elevar Equity, a follow-on extension, and a 21 million dollar Series B in May 2025 led by Bertelsmann India Investments with Elevar Equity and British International Investment participating, giving them a multi-year track record of raising from both impact-oriented and mainstream venture investors as the company scaled clinic by clinic.
Funding
CureBay's Pre-Series C, announced October 22, 2026, totals roughly Rs 100 crore, combining Rs 69 crore in fresh equity from lead investor IvyCap Ventures and existing backers with more than Rs 30 crore in venture debt from Trifecta Capital, Alteria Capital and VentureSoul Partners. It follows the company's 21 million dollar Series B from May 2025, and the mixed equity-debt structure mirrors a pattern common among Indian healthtech and clinic-network startups that need capital for both technology and physical infrastructure, such as new clinic buildouts, without diluting further than necessary between priced rounds.
Competitors
CureBay competes with other asset-light rural and semi-urban healthcare networks in India, including diagnostic-led chains and telemedicine-enabled clinic operators that similarly pair a local health worker with remote doctor access, as well as government primary health centers that remain the default option in many districts. Larger diversified health platforms with pharmacy, diagnostics and teleconsultation arms also compete for the same rural consumer attention and partner-hospital relationships, though few combine CureBay's density of physical clinics with its community health worker layer and government program partnerships at a comparable scale.
VC lens
Would YC fund it? Likely yes on the strength of distribution already proven across seven states and 1.7 million patients, but the investment case depends more on operating discipline and government-partnership renewal than on a novel piece of technology.
Biggest risk: CureBay's model leans on low-margin clinic economics, government program relationships that can change with policy, and a large network of community health workers and partner hospitals that is harder to keep consistent in quality as it scales into new states like Andhra Pradesh than it was across its original home base in Odisha.
